Rocky's Bio

He was born in Lagrange, Georgia on January 23rd, 1959. He grew up in the Atlanta area and fell in love with music at an early age. He learned to sing listening to Elvis, early Rock n Roll, and Motown. He learned to harmonize and really fell in love with singing in school choir. He started writing songs when he was 17. Rocky had his first song on local radio when he was 20. He and some high school classmates were doing original music with the band " Dixie Pride " until their guitar player and main writer moved out of state and like the song says, " Life Happened." He quit playing in bands for about 20 years. After a divorce in '95, he started writing again, which according to him, was cheaper and more beneficial than therapy. He picked up a harmonica at about the same time and fell in love with the Blues. After moving to Hammond, Louisiana in December '01, he started going to blues jams in and around Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Rocky taught himself to play the harmonica and honed his skills sitting in with some of the best musicians in the world. Since then, he has played in and had a few bands including, Crossfire, Drivin' South, Lagniappe Rhythm & Blues, and now The Rocky Denney Band. He has written and recorded a lot over the last few years and has had five of his originals on local radio over the years. If you like harmonica driven blues and rock & roll, you will like The Rocky Denney Band.
